Betty Li Hou is a Computer Science PhD student at New York University focusing on AI ethics and safety. Her research examines the risks and harms of AI systems in real-world deployment scenarios and develops evaluation methods to better capture these impacts. She also studies broader social dynamics around AI, including public discourse, industry impacts, and data privacy, and works to bridge technical research and policy through engagement with legal and policy experts. Her work has been recognized with a COLM Spotlight and NeurIPS ML Safety Workshop Best Paper Award, and she has contributed to policy work through UNESCO and the NYU Policing Project. Betty received a BS with Honors in Computer Science & Engineering at Santa Clara University, where she held a fellowship at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.
