Arnold Ventures recently featured RegLab’s collaboration with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to build and rigorously evaluate an AI tool to assist with adjudication of unemployment claims. The pilot, which recently earned a national AI in Action Award, supports adjudicators tackling complex fact-finding while preserving human judgement at the center of the task. As RegLab Director Daniel Ho put it, “Evaluation really is the critical thing” for separating transformational solutions from “AI snake oil.” That rigorous evaluation is what earned the pilot national recognition and what makes it, in the words of Arnold Ventures’ Justin Milner, “a model for other states.”
