Kiran Chawla is a JD candidate at Stanford Law School and a PhD student in the E-IPER program at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. Her research uses tools from public and environmental economics to understand how climate, environmental, and energy laws can be designed in a distribution-sensitive manner. She currently works with the RegLab to understand the environmental justice implications of communities being designated as ‘disadvantaged’ under different legal regimes. Before Stanford, Kiran worked at Energy & Environmental Economics (E3) on long term resource planning and market design issues for high renewable energy systems. She holds a B. Tech in engineering from the Insitute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, an MS in Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and an MA in Economics from Stanford University.
